The
University for the first time in Bangladesh,
Dhaka University started
with 192 students and faculties
3 in 1 July 1921. The current building
of Dhaka Medical
College emergency was the main building of
the University. PJ Hartog was the first
Vice Chancellor and was the first
Secretary Khan Bahadur
Nazir Uddin Ahmad.
Dhaka University was established under the Govt. India Act. XVIII of 1920 (which is based on the recommendations of the Commission of the University of Calcutta, chaired by Sir Michael Sadler) as a unitary teaching and residential university with a constitution similar in many respects to the then contemporary English University Following the creation in 1947 of the province of East Bengal as part of Pakistan.
East Bengal Ordinance for Education, 1947, was passed, by which the University, subject to the original character of the teaching and residential University was given the sole authority to recognize and enroll all educational institutions in East Bengal Materict above standard and High Madrasa so in 1947, the University of Dhaka affiliate 58 1st and 2nd degree colleges across the whole of East Bengal after independence the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh adapting enacted Statutes of the University of Bangladesh Ordinance No. 1 of 1972. Subsequently, pursuant to the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Executive Order No. 11 of 1973, called the "Dhaka University Order, 1973 was promulgated.
